The Great Gatsby follows the story of Nick Carraway, who leaves the Midwest and heads to New York in the spring of 1922—a city that embodies loosening morals and the rise of popular jazz. Carraway is in search of his own version of the American Dream and settles near the mansion of the mysterious Jay Gatsby, known for throwing extravagant parties. He also moves close to his cousin Daisy and her blue-blooded, unfaithful husband Tom Buchanan.

As Nick gradually becomes part of the world of the extremely wealthy—their illusions, romances, and disappointments—he bears witness to a tale of impossible love, eternal dreams, and a tragic car accident. He documents this world, holding up a mirror to modern times and its conflicts.

Screenwriter, producer, and director Baz Luhrmann, with his extraordinary imagination, brings F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby back to the big screen. Luhrmann offers his own visual interpretation of the classic story, breathing new life into it in a way never seen before. The lead role in the film is played by Leonardo DiCaprio.
